Felodipine
Dosage/Direction for Use
HTN Initially 5 mg once daily. Maintenance dose: 5 or 10 mg once daily. Dose can be decreased to 2.5 mg daily or increased at interval of at least 2 wk to 10 mg daily depending on patient's response. Elderly Initially 2.5 mg daily. Angina pectoris Initially 5 mg once daily, may be increased to 10 mg once daily if needed.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Avoid grapefruit juice.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Severe hepatic impairment. Pregnancy & lactation.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ pronounced gingivitis/periodontitis. May precipitate significant hypotension which may result in myocardial ischaemia. Avoid concomitant use w/ strong CYP3A4 inducers or inhibitors. Minor or moderate influence on ability to drive & use machines.
Adverse Reactions
Flushing, headache, palpitations, dizziness & fatigue.
Drug Interactions
Increased plasma conc w/ CYP3A4 inhibitors eg, itraconazole, erythromycin, cimetidine. Not to be taken w/ grapefruit juice. Decreased plasma conc w/ CYP3A4 inducers eg, carbamazepine, phenytoin or phenobarb.
